Besides, the Rare Malts now can be as high as £500 on places like Ebay. If this is a sampling from all 27 distilleries, there could be some very nice, hard to find gems in there.

Yep, once the market was more affordable than now…Anyway I’ll check for a couple of distilleries only, hoping they selected great casks (and by the way everyone’s sure that old port ellens will be that good? I prefer younger ones…let’s see the battle against the wood…)

Well, sure there is a difference, but Rare Malts was launched in a completely different context. There was no collectors scene at that time – this is definitely becoming a collectors range with big marketing probably. Hopefully with some equally magnificent highlights as well.

There is a mjor difference between these and the Rare Malts. Ten years ago, the Rare Malts could be had for 40-50 quid. These bottlings are all in the hundreds. Some of them are several hundred pounds for teenage cask-strength malts from second or third-tier distilleries.
