Bunnahabhain 1976 (Whisky-Doris)

Posted by: Ruben In: Bunnahabhain

We’ve had a super-young Bunnahabhain just before Christmas, now we’re having an old Bunnahabhain 1976 bottled by Whisky-Doris.

Bunnahabhain 1976 (Whisky-Doris)Bunnahabhain 35 yo 1976 (49,1%, Whisky-Doris 2012, sherry hogshead #6112, 248 btl.)

Nose: very nice, a dry oloroso style. There’s a sweetness of figs and dates, but it’s muted by mossy notes, damp wood and maritime notes. Cocoa dust and orange zest. Quite some herbal notes as well. Mouth: a similar story, balancing between medium sherry (figs, nuts) and the herbal, dry wood. Some Seville oranges, tobacco and sourish oak. Pu-erh tea. Liquorice and a faint salty note in the end. Finish: long, now fairly dry with leafy and salty notes.

A very good, sherried Bunna with a nicely coastal, dry sherry character. In between dry oloroso and Fino actually. Still rather affordable considering the age. Around € 140.

Score: 89/100

  • WhiskyNotes: Thanks Sjoerd. Not that I'm not interested, but it's Glenflagler mixed with other malts so I'm afraid it's not an option to tick it off my list. Thank
  • Sjoerd de Haan-Kramer: I might have a sample from the Glenflagler Pure Malt left. Mind, it is not the single malt (since that is about 17 times more expensive). You interest
  • WhiskyNotes: Thanks for your reply Selim. IMHO you don't pour a 1977 whisky into a Sauternes cask unless something was wrong with it already. So I'm not surprised
