Glenlivet 27 Years – Batch #1 (TBWC)

Last week a That Boutique-y Whisky Company Twitter Tasting was planned but it was postponed due to some logistics issues. So feel free to tune in this Thursday 19:30 GMT.

Five samples will be presented from the TBWC Advent Calendar, a selection of 24 whiskies in total, some of which haven’t been released yet on their own. As we wanted to give you an opportunity to order a calendar still in time for the Advent, here’s a review one of the highlights already: a Glenlivet 27 Years – Batch #1.

We’ll also try a Glen Ord 20 Years and a 50 year-old blended grain, among others. Interesting!

(48,7%, That Boutique-y Whisky Company 2017, Batch #1, 111 btl.)

Nose: starts on beautiful hints of polished oak. Beeswax, a little leather. Cooked fruits and floral honey. Strawberry jam. Morello cherries. Then hazelnuts and dried grasses. Aniseed. Beautifully aromatic and elegantly sherried.

Mouth: ho, ho, Merry Christmas! It starts with the same apricots, plums and sultanas, with hints of cinnamon and waxed oak. Then there’s a lovely wave of tropical hints (mango, pink grapefruit, bergamot) – we love that. The oak is clearly noticeable but it’s not plankish.

Finish: quite long, aromatic, with honey, cinnamon, leather and a touch of Earl Grey.

Great stuff, elegantly sherried with a nice fruity boost on the palate. The full calendar (24 x 3 cl) is around € 280. Or you could wait until the bottle comes out – probably not cheap but worth keeping your eyes peeled.

Update: now available from Master of Malt
