Glen Elgin 2009 (Valinch & Mallet)

Glen Elgin 2009 (Valinch & Mallet)

Valinch & Mallet, the independent bottler with Italian roots, has a nice track record. Not so long ago they presented their 100th bottling. In our glass today is an ex-bourbon Glen Elgin 2009.

Glen Elgin 12 yo 2009 (53,1%, Valinch & Mallet 2021, bourbon hogshead #802774, 250 btl.)

Nose: really out there, albeit with rather mundane aromas. A lot of cereal notes, apples and light bananas. Then mineral notes, green melons and subtle vanilla. Hints of fresh butter.

Mouth: more of these green fruits. Apples and pears, white gummi bears, hints of barley sugar. Sweet grapefruit with some grassy notes and a peppery edge. Wee herbs and flowers in the end. Hints of coconut and ginger. Even a coastal tingle.

Finish: quite long and fresh, on citrusy notes, grassy touches and a hint of cotton candy.

A very natural, relatively wide Glen Elgin. There are green fruits, minerals and a bittersweet edge. No complaints whatsoever, a fine everyday whisky. I got a sample from Whiskysite.nl.
