German importer Kirsch Import is celebrating 50 years in business. To mark the occasion they’re release a number of limited editions. One of them is a 32 year old Talisker 1993. It will be officially presented at Whisky Live Germany in Hamburg.
Talisker 32 yo 1993 (58,4%, OB for Kirsch Import 2026, heavily charred American oak)
Nose: intense and chisseled. Quite a lot of pepper, along with iodine and sea spray. Sharp herbal notes, whiffs of pine needles and burnt fir wood, even an old balsamic edge. Then dried seaweed, rubbed lemon skins and a hint of charcoal. In the background we get a waxy, slightly sweet and ripe fruity note, let’s see whether this develops further on the palate.
Mouth: well, more citrus at first. Pomelos, preserved lemons, maybe a hint of unripe mango too. The peppery notes are very big too (some chilli even), along with brine, hints of fisherman’s rope, charcoal smoke. I’m also picking up peanut butter, green liquorice and this beautiful waxiness again. Then some pine cones and a little tobacco.
Finish: fairly long, still salty, with drying hints of tea and leather, as well as lemon zests.
There’s only a few importers that can get their hands on a Talisker bottling like this. Impressive maritime notes and peppery kicks after so many years, with a nice waxy and fruity echo. Available on the shelves following Whisky Live Germany. Happy birthday, Kirsch!
