Glen Moray 1996 (Asta Morris)

Asta Morris already released an excellent Glen Moray 1989 last year, and now there’s a younger Glen Moray 1996.

Glen Moray 1996 - Asta MorrisGlen Moray 23 yo 1996 (49,7%, Asta Morris 2019, ex-bourbon cask, 189 btl.)

Nose: a bright profile, with green bananas and white plums, waxy lemons and cake. Chamomile. Sweet bready notes (dough) and barley. Light grassy touches and vanilla custard. A blossomy edge too. Classic white oak, I’d say.

Mouth: same freshness. Plenty of barley notes again, mirabelles, sweet lemon and apples. A hint of limoncello perhaps. Hints of fragrant oak with green spices. Less special than the nose.

Finish: medium, on pepper

All very clean and bright, with nice orchard fruits and a fragrant oaky side that suits it. Perhaps a re-charred cask? Hard to fault but the price is a little on the high side for the complexity it has on offer. Around € 170.

Score: 86/100
