Certain whisky is so reliable that you can almost write the tasting notes beforehand. In my opinion this is also true for early 1990s Glen Keith. In our glass is a recent Archives release.
Glen Keith 31 yo 1994 (52,2%, Archives 2025, first-fill bourbon barrel #166297, 109 btl.)
Nose: quite waxy and fruity, just as we hoped. Apricots and bananas stand out, with green apple, grapes and lime. Hints of parraffin and almond oil. Then light vanilla and whiffs of fresh laundry after a while. Very light herbal touches in the background.
Mouth: fruity, in a more tropical way now. Apricots again, but now also pineapple, papaya and guava. Gooseberries and lime as well. A hint of coconut cream strengthens the syrupy exotic side, along with hints of vanilla cake. Later it gets slightly greener again, with light zesty notes and green plums.
Finish: rather long, bright and fruity, with a little fresh bark and mild oak spice.
Very aromatic and totally seductive with this combination of orchard fruits and more tropical notes. Nice creaminess from the bourbon oak as well. Some of these casks get a little austere on the palate, but this one stays wide and round. Great stuff, sadly sold out from Whiskybase.
