This is the sixth and final release in the Harmony Collection from The Macallan. We’ve tried Rich Cacao and Intense Arabica a few years ago, and more recently also Cherrywood Lapsang Tea.
The new release is Inspired by Fresh Coconut. It is made in collaboration with TimeSpirit, the Macallan estate’s dining experience that’s overseen by the renowned El Celler de Can Roca. Even the presentation box is made using paper containing discarded coconut fibres. At the same time there’s also a travel retail version called Toasted Coconut.
The Macallan – Inspired by Fresh Coconut (46,3%, OB ‘Harmony Collection’ 2026, sherry seasoned American oak + ex-bourbon casks)
Nose: rounded and attractive. There’s coconut indeed, perhaps a little sunscreen, along with vanilla cream, apricot and orange. Plenty of cereal notes at the base. Also tropical notes of mango and papaya, with a hint of honey. Then hints of fresh oak shavings and floral touches along with nutmeg.
Mouth: sweet and rounded again, with ex-bourbon casks taking the lead. Sweet almond, some icing sugar, vanilla cake and fresh oak shavings again. Then it moves towards stewed apples, light mango and dessicated coconut flakes. The woody side highlights some baking spice. Ginger and lime zest.
Finish: medium, with slightly mentholated notes, nutmeg, more coconut and vanilla.
The very shy sherry influence and relatively light body make this an uncommon Macallan. It’s a decent dram, fairly oak-driven but also showing nice tropical fruits. Bottom line: you can get this profile from a series of distilleries and usually for a much lower price. Available from The Whisky Exchange among others.
