We’re still in heatwave mode, so one whisky at a time is the most we can handle right now. Here’s the Strathmill 1988 that was recently bottled by The Whisky Agency, as a joint bottling with Sansibar.
Strathmill 37 yo 1988 (45,1%, The Whisky Agency & Sansibar 2026, hogshead)
Nose: nice biscuity notes with stewed apples and oranges, dried wildflowers and a hint of honey. Then it becomes more tropical, on mango and papaya, along with fragrant peaches and a subtle hint of mint. Hints of lemon cake, shortbread and anise. After a while there’s also a mild grapey note that reminds me a young cognac.
Mouth: more of these soft peaches, oranges, mango and yellow apples. Overall slightly greener, but still nicely fruity. Then a subtle hint of bergamot oil, always a plus. Candied ginger, some polished oak and a very light resinous edge. A little dough one or two walnuts and hints of herbal tea. Very elegant.
Finish: medium length, with more citrus freshness, mint and dried herbs, as well as a mild oaky layer.
This Strathmill deserves time in your glass. It’s a gentle whisky with refined flavours, a profile we’ve come to like a lot. Still available from several (German) stores.
