Black Art Sapero is the first expression in a new spin-off of the Bruichladdich Black Art series exclusive to global travel retail. It made its first appearance at Changi Airport in Singapore at the end of 2025 and was then listed in other airports. Future releases include Black Art Propheta and Black Art Empresse, scheduled for November 2026 and 2027 respectively.
Black Art is about embracing the unknown, so the cask types used for this composition are undisclosed.
Bruichladdich Black Art 19 yo – Sapero (47,8%, OB 2025, 12.000 btl.)
Nose: quite funky, starting on an intruiging mix of wet hay, farmy notes and strawberry chewing gum. Blueberry jam, hints of dried apricots and melon cubes. Then also sour wine, apple pie, orange zest and more grassy notes. Just a hint of cocoa underneath.
Mouth: sweet and spicy, packing a lot of punch for the ABV. There’s a malty sweetness and brown sugar, along with blackberries, creamy toffee and cherry. Then the sweet and sour winey note comes out again, along with black pepper and ginger. Top notes of lime. Darker earthy notes in the background, as well as old leather. A subtle bitter drop, mint and liquorice too.
Finish: reasonably long and drying, still spicy, slightly salty, with dark fruits and leather.
It certainly follows the Black Art traditions. The nose is intruiging and overall complexity is really high, but there’s a lot of weight from wine casks and spices on the palate. It’s a bit younger than the other Black Art releases but it’s certainly a nice release.
