Nose: lots of apples (green fresh ones and yellow bruised types), gooseberries, bright citrus and mint leaves. Dusty malt and sandalwood. Slightly floral honey. Hints of vanilla cake and tobacco in the background.

Mouth: a light texture, with more minty and rather spicy notes now. Pepper, cloves, plain oak. Hazelnuts and sesame oil. A nice old-style dustiness. Fairly dry, with a bitter edge and a slight alcoholic kick, missing a bit of the fruity notes here.

Finish: medium, on grassy notes, citrus and wood spices.

A fairly delicate, oily whisky. Wintery and sophisticated, but also a bit dry and woody. Really good, not stellar. Available from The Whisky Exchange and Master of Malt, also samples.

Score: 85/100
