New: Hazelburn Oloroso / Tomatin Portuguese Collection / Kilchoman Casado

Hazelburn 12 Years Oloroso (2022)

Hazelburn 12 Years Oloroso Cask

The upcoming Hazelburn 12 Years Oloroso Cask will be bottled in November 2022. It is a more or less yearly release, but in 2022 Springbank distillery already released another Oloroso Cask in May. Not that we’re complaining. The 12 Year Old comes at 49.9% ABV with a yield of 9000 bottles.

Tomatin Portuguese Collection

Tomatin Portuguese Collection

Tomatin distillery released the Portuguese Collection, a series of three 2006 vintage whiskies. They come from Moscatel, Port and Madeira casks. The spirit was distilled on 8 September 2006 and after 8 years of maturation, the three were separated into different types of casks and finished for a further 7 years. The whisky is now 15 years of age and comes at 46%.

They sell for around € 95. Already seen at The Whisky Exchange for instance.

Kilchoman Casado whisky

Kilchoman Casado

Also inspired by Portugal is the latest Kilchoman Casado (Portuguese for married). A set of 38 ex-bourbon barrels (peated to around 50 ppm) received a two year finish in two giant Portuguese red wine casks with a capacity of 6000 litres.

The bottling strength is a normal 46% ABV. A total of 12,900 bottles is arriving in stores as we speak. LMdW is selling it for € 105.

Glenrothes The 42

Glenrothes The 42

It’s not entirely clear what it will look like, but The Glenrothes is working on a 42 year old expression called The 42. Bottled at 43% ABV, the label mentions hints of orange peels, sugared almonds and coriander seeds. Probably composed around refill sherry casks, I’d say.
