Teeling Revival 12 Years (Vol. V)

The fifth and final release of the Teeling Revival series has just been announced. We’re now very close to the launch of the first new Dublin distilled whiskey for over 40 years – in November 2018.

Teeling Revival V consist of 12 year-old single malt initially aged in bourbon barrels and then finished in a combination of Cognac and Brandy barrels. See my reviews of the other releases: Revival I, Revival III and Revivial IV.

Teeling Revival vol. V 12 YearsTeeling Revival 12 yo  (46%, OB 2018, cognac & brandy finish, 15.000 btl.)

Nose: nice fruitiness, with lots of lime, apricots, greengages and pears. Also almonds and marzipan. Vanilla cake and other pastry notes. There’s a sweet, winey side but also a citrusy brightness – both well balanced. A subtle whiff of grappa underneath.

Mouth: sweet, creamy and cakey again. Floral honey, typical traces of tropical fruits. Lime, pink grapefruit, pears, mirabelles. A drier side of pastry dough. Citrus zest. Just a (light) alcoholic brandy touch.

Finish: medium long, with a bit of drying oak, honey and almonds.

With the Pineau de Charentes finished Revival vol. III I already had hints of old cognac and this is similar. Teeling really masters the art of upgrading their whisky with a wine (in this case brandy) finish. Around € 115 from The Whisky Exchange or Master of Malt.
