Teaninich 1999 (Dutch Whisky Connection)

Teaninich 1999 (Dutch Whisky Connection)

A second bottling from the They Inspired series by Michiel Wigman: a middle-aged Teaninich 1999. This distillery can really shine at a high age but even younger examples can be very good.

Teaninich 20 yo 1999 (49,7%, Dutch Whisky Connection ‘They Inspired’ 2019, 238 btl.)

Nose: fresh and natural, with bright fruits (lots of lemons and a hint of unripe pineapple), hints of fresh linen and light paraffin. Some mash water and custard. Hints of grassy green tea in the background, as well as some plasticine.

Mouth: full of barley notes now, with hints of ale and white bread (mild sourdough). Herbal touches, lemon balm and mint, making it very fresh again. Apples and grapefruits. Pear eau-de-vie. Peppery notes with green oak and hints of chalk underneath. Some earthy touches as well.

Finish: good length, clean, with mild grassy oak and citrus.

A whisky that needs time and stays close to the raw materials. It may not sound exciting, but the freshness and classic balance are pretty great. This is simply a solid Teaninich. Available from Dutch Whisky Connection directly.
