NAS 58 Year Old Armagnac (Decadent Drinks)

Back in September we reviewed the inaugural releases from the NAS series (“Notable Age Statements”) by Decadent Drinks. After a single malt and a blended malt, the third release is a 58 year old Bas-Armagnac, sourced from Château de Gaube.

We had a Château de Gaube 1962 a few weeks ago and we found it a little rustic. Let’s see how this compares.

Château de Gaube NAS 58 yo 1963 – Bas-Armagnac (46,3%, Decadent Drinks 2022, single cask)

Nose: preserved apricots, quince jelly and oranges at first, with a big minty freshness. Then also warmer vanilla notes and hints of rose petals. Subtle hints of waxed floors. Thyme honey and lightly earthy tobacco.

Mouth: slightly more rustic and earthy now, although there’s still a nice fruitiness of stewed plums, apricot and pear. Hints of vanilla. Then it brings to mind the chocolates with Timur berries that I bought from Pierre Hermé. Dried mint and a drop of walnut liqueur, with some wintery spice and tobacco leaves.

Finish: quite long, on earthy notes, herbal tea and spiced dark fruits.

Less rustic and farmy than the other one from this house. It finds a nice balance of fruits and earthy spice. Overall still a totally classic style, worth a look. Now available from Decadent Drinks.
