Turntable Blending is releasing affordable small-batch whisky with high value for money. One of their latest offerings is this Turntable Unplugged.
This core expression is a blended Scotch whisky, with over 80% malt content. It includes distillates from Linkwood, Ballindalloch and Benrinnes, from first and second fill bourbon casks and sherry casks. They also add a dash of peated Ledaig to make it wider.
Turntable Unplugged – Blended Whisky (46%, OB 2025)
Nose: fresh and vibrant, with pleasant fruity esters. Green banana, juicy pears and hints of blossomy honey. Maybe some wildflowers and green herbs. Then more towards citrusy notes, especially grapefruit. Quite light, like a fresh fruit salad. There’s a typical young bourbonny hint as well and indeed a very subtle smoky edge in the distance.
Mouth: rather sweet and light again, perhaps a little too easy-going now. I mean, you can’t be against pears, vanilla ice cream, honey and light peach, of course, but it’s lacking something unique. And a bit of punch. Subtle herbs, lime sweets and a little pepper comes out later.
Finish: medium length. The easy fruits are still there and the very mild ashy note makes a return.
A nice flavour profile and at 35 euros there’s very little to complain. This is a bottle to open with friends and not pay too much attention. As a sipper’s whisky it’s a bit too simple to get me excited. Check Turntable Spirits for availability.
