Nose: medium peat and quite some toffee sweetness. Like butter toffee. Light cabbage in the background. Gets fresher after a while, with nice citrusy notes of oranges and lemons. Almonds and touches of vanilla latte. Surprisingly citrusy and even a little floral with water.

Mouth: youngish and sweet, but with a nicely thick texture. Roasted malt, buttery notes again, burnt grass and a little nutmeg. Slightly acrid smoke, dark soot and increasing nutty notes. The same citrusy notes underneath. Hints of coffee beans as well.

Finish: long, but it’s mostly the smoke, the sugary sweetness and a hint of salty liquorice that continues – other flavours seem to disappear.

A good Ledaig, especially because of its above average complexity and the interesting development when adding water. Regular price: € 85 which is quite heavy. Now launching for € 70, see their website.
