New: Kilchoman Red Wine // Old Pulteney 25 Years // Yula Chapter 3

Compass Box Gold Standard / Kilchoman Red Wine Cask

Kilchoman Red Wine Cask

In the first half of October, Kilchoman will release a Kilchoman Red Wine Cask Matured, made with wine casks from the Portuguese Douro valley. Expect some cooked red fruits on top of the Kilchoman smoke. It will be bottled at 50% ABV, relatively limited (6000 bottles) and priced around € 80. My tasting notes will follow soon.

Update: check my review of the Kilchoman Red Wine Cask.

Compass Box Gold Standard

Now that Compass Box No Name and Compass Box Phenomenology have been spotted at Whisky Live in Paris, it’s time to talk about the next expression: Compass Box Gold Standard. This is a blended whisky composed for Binny’s Beverage Depot with four Highlands distilleries and 6% heavily peated Islay malt.

Old Pulteney 25 Years / Old Pulteney 1983

Old Pulteney 25 Years & Old Pulteney 1983 Vintage

Pulteney Distillery has released a 25 Year Old expression which fills the gap of the 17 Years and 21 Years that were recently said to be discontinued. It was matured for 22 years in ex-bourbon casks, followed by a finish in Oloroso sherry butts. It costs around € 350 and is already available for pre-order.

There is also the Old Pulteney 1983 Vintage, matured / finished in the same types of casks, bottled at 46% ABV as well and available from October for around € 570 – pre-order here.

Yula 22 Years - Chapter 3

Yula 22 Years Chapter 3

We were big fans of the first Yula from Douglas Laing. The third chapter is here, it’s 22 years old and still a blended malt composed with Island single malts. Bottled at 51,2% and around € 150.
